Adam pocketed a big fat Hot Press contributors’ cheque for documenting their February/March ’82 run round the US
“Well, here we are in New Orleans,” he commenced on Wednesday February 10th. “We arrived last night from London after remixing the new single, ‘A Celebration’, in Basing Street Studios. Nigel Bennet, a long-time friend and guitar-player in The Members, lent us some gear. Finished mixing at 1.30am and went to our hotel, The Portobello, where The Stranglers were having their post-gig party. Noisy bunch and well out of it.”
By the time they got to Denver on February 27th, the band were in dire need of a pick me up.
“Got up early to go and see a R’n’R doctor,” Adam explained. “We are all run down and need Vitamin B12 jabs in the buttocks. This man is a godsend. First he lances a sebaceous cyst behind my right ear, then we discuss the various abuses to which I have willingly subjected my body. He looks in to some orifices and recommends suitable drugs to enable me to continue my decadent activities.”
Sadly, the proffered medical advice went unheeded.
"Got up with a very sore head, tried to cure it with three vodkas, sat around the pool, executed a swim, which didn't seem to cure anything and back to bed for a couple of hours shut eye," read Tuesday March 1st's decidedly hungover entry in Fort Lauderdale. "Arrange a party to go to the Play Pen bar to watch the mud wresting."
What’s that Adam? You never got your cheque? Er, it’s in the post…
