Bono’s plan to highlight the AIDs epidemic in Africa at this year’s Superbowl has sadly been scuppered.
The U2 singer wanted to perform their new song ‘An American Prayer’ with Jennifer Lopez during the interval but officials deemed this as "inappropriate". A spokesman for the National Football League stated that the half-time show was seen as wholesome entertainment rather than a platform on which "to focus on a single issue". The only confirmed act to provide this entertainment is Janet Jackson while Beyonce Knowles will sing the national anthem to open the game.
Despite this drawback Bono is having more luck with his art, in the most literal sense of the word, as two of his paintings for the Gavin Friday inspired Peter and Wolf charity project are available as limited edition screen prints. The paintings raised $368,000 in a charity auction in December and their screen prints along with two t-shirts are hoped to raise more funds. The prints are & euro; 100 and this money goes to the Irish Hospice Foundation. The prints and t-shirts are available online at www.peterwolf.org.
