They're donating proceeds from the gig to an equality organisation
Two Door Cinema Club have explained why, despite being opposed to the state’s transgender bathroom law, they’ve announced a North Carolina club show next month.
“Recently the General Assembly passed a bill that, in our opinion, erodes and invalidates fundamental protections from discrimination for the LGBT community,” they say. “Many artists have cancelled their upcoming stops in NC as a result of the new legislation, but we wanted to make it clear that, even though we’ll be playing in NC, we fundamentally disagree with any moves to legalise discrimination against any person. To stand up for what is right, you have to do exactly that and we’d rather do that within the state of North Carolina, rather than from afar. It’s our name above the door that night, it’s our name on the ticket and we see it as our responsibility to ensure that anyone can come and feel safe. The old dudes who made this law are alien to us as we imagine they are to our fans in North Carolina.
“We’re talking with the folks at Cat’s Cradle and we’re going to ensure every single one of you is treated with kindness and respect regardless of your gender, creed or sexuality. Our profits from the show will go to Equality North Carolina, who work towards bettering the future for all North Carolinans.”
On the musical front, the Northern Irish trio are expected to announce details of their third album over the next couple of weeks.
