Tricky has exclusively revealed to hotpress.com that he’s set to collaborate with Tom Waits before the end of the year.
The UK electronic artist explains:
“He’s invited me to his studio in San Francisco where we’re just going to sit down together, and record. We’ve nothing specific in mind other than to vibe off each other.”
What’s brought about this great meeting of maverick musical minds?
“Ever since I brought my first album out, I’ve had people in the press reckoning, ‘He must be a Tom Waits fan’, which to be honest with you I wasn’t. Anyway, (music industry legend) Chris Blackwell told me one day that he’s actually a fan of mine, so I checked out some of his stuff and realised that he’s a genius. He totally occupies his own space, which is what I aspire to as well. At this point we’ve only talked on the phone, but there’s definitely chemistry there.
“So, rather than criticise the press, I’m going to thank you for in a roundabout way making it happen!”
Meanwhile, hotpress.com has copped a pre-release listen to the new Tricky album, Knowle West Boy, which is out on July 4, and can happily confirm it’s the best thing he’s done in years.
