The South African comedian replaces Jon Stewart later this year.
Two months on from Jon Stewart announcing his plans to leave Comedy Central's popular satirical news programme The Daily Show later this year, the new host has been confirmed.
Keeping things in-house, producers have also opted for a non-American. Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old South African stand-up who first contributed to the show as "Senior International Correspondent" last December, will take over from Jon Stewart this year, though no exact date has been confirmed.
Noah is currently on a world tour, and told the New York Times from Dubai: "You don’t believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol."
Stewart said in a statement: “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with."
