The mega-chain's only surviving stores are in Japan and Ireland
We're super-excited about All Things Must Pass, a documentary look back at the life and mainly US times of Tower Records.
"I got a job at Tower because that's the only place I could get a job with my fucking haircut," reveals Dave Grohl in the trailer, which also features fellow celebrity admirers Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and David Geffen.
With a "If you threw up, you still had to show up!" policy in relation to staff partying, it was a seriously cool place to work but, sadly, it wasn't to last.
"In 1999, Tower Records made $1 billion," says the blurb. "In 2006, the company filed for bankruptcy. What went wrong? Everyone thinks they know what killed Tower Records: The Internet. But that's not the story. All Things Must Pass is a feature documentary film examining this iconic company's explosive trajectory, tragic demise, and legacy forged by its rebellious founder Russ Solomon."
The only surviving Tower stores are the ones in Japan and right here in Dublin which still blow most other record shops out of the water.
The premiere took place at Tower's reopened for one night store on Sunset Boulevard where Eagles Of Death Metal supplied the entertainment. There are no confirm Irish screenings yet, but we reckon it's perfect film festival fodder.
