As the 1916 centenary unfolds, TV3 has unveiled shots from their upcoming 3 part drama 'Trial of the Century' with Vaughan-Lawlor taking centre stage.
'Trial of the Century' offers an alternative to the historic reality that our iconic patriot Pearse was subjected to. As opposed to the brutal execution that ended his life, the series will see Padraig Pearse in a court, standing trial and defending the actions of the 1916 rebellion.
It will follow a chronological timeline in the court process and in the final episode, viewers will get to hear the deliberations of the jury whose responsibility it is to either convict or acquit the proud Irishman.
'Trial of the Century' was filmed in Green Street Courthouse in Smithfield which is significant in itself. This court held several prominent historic trials such as the trial of Wolfe Tone and Robert Emmet in 1803. Furthermore, Green Street Courthouse was used extensively as the Special Criminals Court throughout the Troubles from 1970 to the 1990's.
'Trial of the Century' is set to air on TV3 this coming Spring.
