Yup, the Hollywood star has turned Americana musician.
Tim Robbins – yes, that Tim Robbins – is playing Whelan’s on September 26 with his The Rogues Gallery Band.
At the age of 51 the Oscar-winning star known for films like Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River and Bob Roberts has made his first ever album, which is being released a few days earlier through PIAS.
Featuring “everything from a fiddle and saw to a guest spot from Joan As Policewoman (on ‘Moment in the Sun’), a harmonium, hurdy gurdy, accordion and Cor Anglais”, the Hal Wilner-produced record is a fine raggle-taggle collection of Americana and storytelling. It’s not a new flight of fancy, with Susan Sarandon’s now sadly ex- performing as part of the expanded Rogue’s Gallery line-up that Wilner brought to Grand Canal Theatre in 2008, and which included Shane MacGowan and assorted members of the Virgin Prunes.
Robbins and his band are also heading north to The Limelight, Belfast (27).
Tickets for the capital go on sale at 9am today priced €25.
