The View defend sex pest video in Hot Press

The band discussed their controversial new promo in the latest issue.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 01 Aug 2012

Gearing up for three shows on Irish shores this September, The View's lead singer Kyle Falconer took time out for a chat with Hot Press.

On the agenda? The fact they have done little to curb their hedonistc, rock 'n' roll ways on the road despite claims to the contrary some years ago, and the recent accusations of misogny that have been levelled at them.

Having irked some with the title of their second album, Which Bitch?, their new video for single 'Hold On Now' finds actor Martin Compston play a rampaging sex pest. In the graphic clip, Compston strangles and sexually abuses women.

“Music videos don’t get played any more, unless you’re Coldplay," says Falconer. "We thought ‘right let’s do a nuts video’. We have all these women’s rights people on our case.

"We thought the video was humorous.," he argues. "It’s got a man with pink underwear in it. It’s funny. The character Martin plays.. he knows he’s wrong but he cannae stop.”

Those boisterous Scottish boys' fourth album, Cheeky For A Reason, is out now.
