With their eagerly awaited third album in the can, the band’s Pete Robertson opens up to Hot Press’ Colm O’Regan on how stepping out of the spotlight informed the new record
With two massive albums in as many years, it looked as though The Vaccines had the world at their feet. It was then, a surprise when they decided to go on hiatus, and walk away from the incredible momentum they had managed to build.
“It did us a world of good” says drummer Pete Robertson. “The next time we got together, we were so up for it. We’d started writing quite quickly after coming off the road, but it wasn’t even Vaccines oriented. It was writing for fun, and making music with no pressure.”
That mindset fuelled much of what will feature on their new album, English Graffiti, which is due for release in May.
“It contributed a lot to the new record. We went through a lot of phases, but all of it was instrumental in creating what we ended up with. The fearlessness in our writing was something we were all keen to retain.”
