The national broadcaster is going all out with its commemorations
RTÉ have announced details of the special programmes they’ll be airing as part of their 1916 commemorations.
The centrepiece is Rebellion, a five-part drama set over three weeks of the Easter Rising with Charlie Murphy, Brian Gleeson, Ruth Bradley, Barry Ward and Sarah Greene among the impressive cast. Liam Neeson is the narrator of 1916, a three-part documentary that also focuses on the Easter Rising.
Ireland’s Rising finds broadcasters Ryan Tubridy and Anna Doyle, actor Fiona Shaw and football manager Jim McGuinness travelling back to their respective counties to discover the role they played in 1916’s historic events.
Bob Geldof examines the life and works of a true Irish hero in He’s So Modern: Geldof On Yeats, a two-part co-production with the BBC while 7 Women tells the Easter 1916 story through the eyes of seven female participants.
A slightly different version of events will be presented courtesy of The Rubberbandits’ Guide To 1916 with lots of social media crossover.
There will be zero social media in 1916 Children in which a group of children will spend 24 hours living as their ancestors would have a hundred years ago.
There’s also a series of RTÉ 1916: Reflecting The Rising series of talks, walking tours, music, dance, street art, theatre, moments of reflection and celebration.
