The inevitable cavalcade of awards shows is now in full swing and last night (Sunday January 26), it was the turn of the 56th annual Grammy Awards.
Opened by the Dublin-bound Beyoncè – she's set for four sold-out shows in The Dublin O2 in March – and her husband Jay Z, who duetted with their recent hit ‘Drunk in Love’ from Beyoncè's new self-titled album, their performance seeming to resemble something out of a modern take on Cabaret.
The big winners on the night were Daft Punk, who carried an air of inevitability with their five wins, including Album Of The Year for Random Access Memories and Record Of The Year for ‘Get Lucky’. They also performed in style dressed in all white robot outfits, receiving a helping hand from Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams and the legendary Nile Rodgers.
Other notable winners on the night were Lorde winning Song Of The Year for ‘Royals’ and Best Pop Solo Performance, and Macklemore & Lewis who took away four of their seven nominations whilst also having 33 same-sex marriages during their performance of ‘Same Love’.
An award given out before the ceremony included Best Historical Album which went to The Rolling Stones' Charlie Is My Darling - Ireland 1965, the soundtrack to the Peter Whitehead documentary of the same name chronicling the Stones' brief tour of Ireland as ‘Satisfaction’ hit number one across multiple countries.

Hot Press were involved in the making of the Deluxe Edition of the film set, featuring a written interview with the Rev. Donor Macniece who in 1965 went to the concert in Belfast. He was spotted at the gig and ostracised from the priesthood in Northen Ireland, before retiring to Cambodia.
