There's great news for the legions of the band's fans with The National not only revealing that their new album will be out in September, but they also took to social media this morning to drop the first full track from it too...
You can watch the video for the first song entitled 'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness' (directed by Casey Reas) here...
They have revealed that the new album will be called 'Sleep Well Beast' and it will be released on 8 September.
The band are also planning to play some Irish dates as part of their word tour. It's being reported that they will play the following gigs:
16 September - Cork, Ireland @ Cork Opera House / Sounds From a Safe Harbour
17 September – Dublin, Ireland @ Vicar Street
18 September – Dublin, Ireland @ Vicar Street
'Sleep Well Beast' is "officially" the band's first album since the critically acclaimed masterpiece 'Trouble Will Find Me', which was released in 2013. However, The Nationals did record a six-hour live experimental version of one song, 'Sorrow' from the brilliant 'High Violet' album ,which resulted in the album 'A Lot Of Sorrow'. It was released as a limited edition 9 vinyl collection in 2015, costing over a whopping $200.
Speaking about the new album, Matt Berninger revealed: "We’re playing together in a room, which means we’re jamming more. But it’s not a jam record at all – the songs are much more like weird, math-y, electronic-y stuff.”
In an interview with NME, the band's frontman added: “A lot of songs are going in completely different directions. But that’s a really fun place to be. We’re in the middle of the wilderness, in a rainforest full of really fun noises.”
