Canadian collaborator crafts a stunning solo album
Serving as something of a catalyst to the current music scene in Montreal, Canada, Jon Cohen was previously a member of bands such as The Dears and The Social Register before striking out on his own. Behold is his second solo record. A ‘70s-influenced pop prog effort, this an inventive, wildly ambitious collection of songs that really shine thanks to the singer’s delicate vocal delivery. Featuring guest appearances from The Stills, Broken Social Scene and The Dears, standouts include the pitch-perfect alt. ballad that is ‘Behold’ and the anthemic Talking Heads-influenced ‘Brain Pollution,’ which has a hook that’ll you’ll be humming for months after hearing it. Fans of outsider pop will adore this.
