Danny O'Reilly admits his band were a "good support group" when he split from Laura Whitmore.
Signed to Island, back with a new album and – most excitingly – Hot Press cover stars once more, a high-flying Coronas open up in our new bumper Christmas issue.
The chief topic of conversation is, of course, new album The Long Way with lead singer Danny O'Reilly stating that: "This one is definitely a break-up album."
While Dave McPhillips assists on lyrics, the guitarist says that it is "quite specifically" about Danny's split from Irish MTV presenter Laura Whitmore. The creative process helped the songwriter move on.
"I use it for therapy: songs writing and singing every night," says O'Reilly. "And sometimes it's still hard, but when you get out to perform and play in front of people, it gets you through it.
"Actually, when the break-up itself happened we were just about to embark on a European tour and that made it easier for me. Being with the boys and being on the road playing shows. They were very supportive. It is good to have that, a good support group of mates."
Elsewhere in the extensive cover piece, the now London-based band discuss packing out arenas and broadening their horizons.
