The new album, Sugar Island tells stories of the band's childhood in Northern Ireland.
The 4 Of Us have returned with news of a new album and a tour. The band, formed by brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy, gained fast fame back in 1989 with their album Songs for the Tempted which included classics like "Mary" and "Drag My Bad Name Down." Their sophomore record, Man Alive was named in Q Magazine's Top 50 Albums of 1992, and the single "She Hits Me" made it into the U.K's Top 30.
Their new album, Sugar Island, set for a release in November, explores the story of the brothers' childhood growing up in the troubling times in Northern Ireland. The title refers to a landmark in their hometown which was a popular meeting space for young lovers. Brendan Murphy recalls: ’It was a dark time for sure, but as kids we still managed to have a lot of fun. Everyone who lived through that time has their own stories to tell; we thought we’d share some of ours.’
The brothers have even managed to pull their whole original band together for a tour combining songs from Sugar Island and Songs for the Tempted aptly titled Then and Now. They will perform in Dublin’s Vicar St. Nov 11. Full tour dates can be found below.
