Service loses superstar's back catalogue
Taylor Swift doesn't look like merely breaking records this week, but utterly shattering them; global sales of 1989 - which has been getting a serious spin at HP Towers this week - are streets ahead of any other album this year.
Perhaps looking to take advantage of the demand, Big Machine Label Group has withdrawn the singer's entire back catalogue from Spotify, leading the streaming site to appeal to the singer directly.
"We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want," Spotify said in a statement. "We hope she’ll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone."
After suggestions over the weekend that BMLG could be subject to a blockbuster sale, some have speculated that it's an effort to create a scarcity and drive up the price.
