The E Street guitarist and on-screen wiseguy broadcast from Dublin.
The Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band invasion of Dublin commenced last night with Steve Van Zandt broadcasting a special edition of his Underground Garageshow from Tower Records in Wicklow Street.
Cheered on by 300 adoring fans who’d managed to bag themselves the necessary wristbands, Steve started –appropriately enough given Saturday’s Hyde Park shenanigans – with The Beatles’ ‘I Saw Her Standing There’. This time there were no unseemly interruptions, just some quality dad dancing from Mr. V Z who also had Them – “the greatest garage band of all time” – The Who, The Beach Boys and The Raspberries in his record bag. Underlining the fact that the show has featured 500 bands in its decade-long history, there was also room for ‘Bolloxology’, a charming little ditty by Dubliners-living-in-Stockholm Sir Reg and The Urges’ ‘Fire Burning’, which was released Stateside on Steve’s Wicked Cool label.
If you’re RDS-bound tonight, be aware there’s no support with the chaps on stage at 7pm sharp.
In the meantime, here’s some appetite whetting material for you:
