Sinead O’Connor will be releasing two newly recorded songs as a special audio Christmas card on December 15.
‘If You Had A Vineyard’ and ‘Jeremiah (Something Beautiful)’ are two, new exquisite songs written and gathered together by Sinead for a unique release in the festive season. They're an aural greeting to her fans celebrating the inspirational new music she has been working on in 2006.
"'If You Had A Vineyard' is a protest song I guess,” Sinead explains. “But it's more of an anti war song. I have always been fascinated with how the books of the prophets relate to things nowadays even though they were written hundreds or thousands of years ago.
“I read Isaiah and took the lines from it that I liked and adapted them so they rhymed. My desire was not to use anything that perpetuated the myth of a God character being angry and aggressive.
“I suppose I observe a lot of violence done in the name of theologies of various religions, but when you study the actual texts of those religions you find that they don't back up anyone who might use them to justify war or violence or anything really which is unloving of people.”
The release will be available free to the public in Ireland on a two-track CD Digipak, on a first come first served basis, from record stores.
It will also be available internationally as a download on Sinead’s website www.sineadoconnor.com and at www.emusic.com. Fans will also be able to watch exclusive video performances of the two songs at Sinead’s site and at www.myspace.com/sineadoconnormusic
Speaking about the unusual decision to make her music available for free, Sinead commented…
“I'm so excited and proud of this new record. I didn't want to wait until April next year for it to be heard, and I want as many people as possible to hear it. Obviously, more people will hear it if it's out there for free in the shops and on the internet. Also, the song 'Jeremiah (Something Beautiful)' talks about Christmas, so it seems appropriate to be doing this at the right time of the year."
Irish stockists of the Christmas card CD include Golden Discs, HMV, Virgin, Road Records, Freebird, Tower, Heartbeat City, Roxy, Zhivago, BPM and all good independent record stores.
This unique initiative precedes the release of a new Sinead O’Connor album entitled Theology, which will be released by Rubyworks in spring 2007.
