Sinéad O’Connor has reunited with her husband, Barry Herridge, who she broke up with in December 2011 after just 16 days of married life.
O’Connor blamed their separation on the negative media attention that ensued after she revealed their nuptials ended in a ‘wild ride’ to find marijuana in Vegas.
Most of the column inchage focused on Herridge being a counsellor for people with addiction problems in Dublin.
“Two years ago I married the right man,” she writes on her website. “Outside pressures meant we were safer to separate. However we did always love each other and marry for the right reasons – in a pink cadillac in Las Vegas – and have stayed friends and never got divorced.
“Barry has been my absolute harbour whenever seas were rough, no matter what, and in the last two months when I was extremely ill because of kidney stones and various frights, the man moved in here and minded me like I’m a queen (which of course I am) without asking for anything but to be a friend.
“Am delighted to want to say, since you’ll all notice me wearing a very pretty engagement and wedding ring and may wonder, I haven’t married a fifth time. Robert Downey Jnr. just isn’t going to happen. My lovely king of a husband has asked if we would renew our marriage vows and not let outside forces, such as were in the past, put the baby out with the bathwater.
“So, since no woman on earth could not adore a man that treats her like a goddess and loves her like a slut; and is there for her when she is half-croaking; and is kind and gentle and everything a woman could ever wish for in a husband – including he makes a mean cup of coffee in the mornings, ladies; and all I have to do is bend over and we’re off, I have happily agreed, and we intend to have a renewal of our marriage vows at some point in the summer and this time with our families and friends present and a proper fuck off party.
“Most romantic story ever; will tell it all one day when I write my book. And thank you to one extreeeeeeeeeeemely valued special friend (G) for actually making all my dreams come true. God works in beautifully mysterious ways. I owe you my happiness, you’re an angel. Am happiest woman on earth, and so fuckin’ excited about (my) album and tour… can’t wait till’ August…
“See you all on Brendan O’Connor’s Saturday Night show on March 1st. (I’ll ) be singing backing vocals for John Grant on ‘GMF’.”
