With Stephen Rea and Fionnuala Flanagan also on board, the singer is just one of a number of leading Irish artists who will assist the Reclaim The Spirit of 1916 group...
Sinéad O’Connor is among the artists lined up to participate in a major parade and pageant commemorating the Irish rising of 1916. The commemoration will take place on the day of the 100th Anniversary of the rebellion – which is April 24th, 2016.
The alternative celebration of the Rising is being planned by the Reclaim the Vision of 1916 group. Plans were announced by the artist Robert Ballagh at a 1916 commemoration, which took place over the weekend at Arbour Hill. Events, according to Mr. Ballagh, will also include a National Graves rededication of the 1916 burial plot. “I don’t think the State will be giving space to those who feel the vision of 1916 hasn’t been achieved,” Ballabh said of the State’s plans for next year.
