The music mogul says he's in the process of "making calls" about doing the charity single to raise much needed funds for the victims of the horrific fire.
Taking to Twitter last night, Simon Cowell said: "I am watching footage of the Grenfell Tower fire in London. Heartbreaking. We hope to confirm a record tomorrow which will raise some money for the many people affected by the tragedy. Making calls tonight.”
So far the official death toll is at 17. But it's feared that over 100 people could have tragically perished in the fire at the block of flats in London.
Singer Lily Allen last night accused government officials and even the media of "downplaying " the death toll. She claimed that police and fire fighters told her "off the record" that they fear that as many as 150 people could have died.
Back in 2010, the Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell produced a cover version of REM's 'Everybody Hurts' for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. That particular charity song featured the likes of Mariah Carey, Michael Buble, Rod Stewart and Kylie Minogue.
Simon Cowell says that he would "love" for Adele, who was pictured crying and hugging people outside Grenfell Tower earlier this week, to appear on the new song.
Speaking this morning on the breakfast TV show Good Morning Britain, Simon Cowell revealed that he paid a visit to Grenfell Tower himself and said that it "sent chills through me".
He revealed, "I drove up to see the building which is only around the corner from me. I've seen a lot of bad things and not far away from where I'm sitting, it really dawned on you. It sent chills through me.
"Seeing the building made a big impact and I think the thing that really hit home for me was seeing that wall (of tributes) and I saw those messages and when I saw how the residents immediately turned out with water and clothes and offers of shelter and everything else.
"And that's when I thought I'm not going to sit here and do nothing - for me in my position to not do something would be appalling."
