Sia's new single, 'The Greatest', comes off the back of 'Cheap Thrills', which reached the No.1 spot in 10 different countries. The enigmatic singer teams up once again with teenage dancer Maggie Ziegler for the music video, and the song features a cameo from Kendrick Lamar, one of the most prolific rapper working in the music industry today.
Sia has been firing on all cylinders lately and, in terms of pop music realised this year, she's quite possibly earned the title of 'The Greatest'. This new single layers positive mantras like 'Don't give up, I won't give up' and 'I got stamina' over energetic distorted synth voice melodies. Complementing this is a music video choreographed to show Ziegler raising up and encouraging the young people in a dingy tenement block by means of an exultant, tribal-esque dance (albeit the coda of the video leaves us with a slightly hair-raising, ambiguous twist). Kendrick Lamar's verse doesn't feature in this video but is in the single version. The Compton artist spits more positive mantras which are heavy with biblical allusions in his typical rap-poetic style.
