Listen: Shane's song for Euro 2012

Shane MacGowan has recorded a green anthem.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 21 May 2012

Shane MacGowan has entered the Euro 2012 anthem fray with ‘The Rockier Road To Poland’, a suitably rambunctious number that also features The Aftermath and an assortment of top trad musicians.

“We were out the night before the recording, playing pool with Shane and discussing what we should do,” explains The Aftermath’s Johnny Cronin. “Then Shane put David Bowie's 'Jean Genie' on the jukebox. Listening, he put down his drink, and said, that's how to do it. So it's The Dubliners picking up Bowie's 'Jean Genie' on 'The Rocky Road to Dublin'. It sounds mad but it works, and ‘The Rockier Road to Poland’ was born.”

The single is available on iTunes and from http://bit.ly/Jibed0 as a limited-edition CD. All proceeds going to the Simon Community.

Also out this week and highly recommended is ‘We’re On Our Way’, another Trap supporting anthem by Mahoney who’s joined in the studio by the David Gray band and Lir’s Rob Malone.

Supported by Robbie Keane, this one benefits the Lauralynn Children’s Hospice Foundation.
