Jake Shears: Scissor Sisters Aren't A Gay Band

The singer says, "If the whole thing is defined by something as boring as, like, who you fuck, then the train’s not gonna roll very far."

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 30 May 2012

In the forthcoming issue of Hot Press (out tomorrow) Scissor Sisters' frontman Jake Shears talks to Olaf Tyaransen the morning after a sold-out London show marking the release of the band's fourth studio album.

The singer tells Olaf that though they may have been born from the notoriously flamboyant gay club scene, he doesn't like the band being defined as a gay one:

“Oh God, I hope we’re not thought of that way at this stage! I think for any band or any artist, you sort of have to transcend your everyday life – who you are, who we all are – in order to rise above it.

"If the whole thing is defined by something as boring as, like, who you fuck, then the train’s not gonna roll very far.”
