Saoirse Ronan lands new acting role

The two-time Oscar nominee will star in Ian McEwan novel adaptation On Chesil Beach

Saoirse Ronan has been confirmed as the leading lady in Ian McEwan’s novel adaptation On Chesil Beach.

Set in the sixties, On Chesil Beach, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2007, tells the story of Florence and Edward – a couple who spend their honeymoon in a small hotel on the Dorset seashore.

Saoirse Ronan will be playing the part of Florence. This will not be the Carlow native’s first time to act in an Ian McEwan adaptation either, as it was her Oscar nominated performance as Briony in Atonement that saw her first shoot to international fame.

“It’s an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project,” said producer Elizabeth Karlsen, who previously worked with the actress on 2012’s Byzantium.

Production for On Chesil Beach is set to begin this Autumn.
