Thousands more register to vote in referendums
Young people encouraged to get out and vote
In Dublin 26,575 more people have registered across the city and county to vote in the upcoming same-sex marriage and presidential age referendums.
This is a massive rise of 172 per cent on last year’s local and European elections, which only saw an increase of 9000.
James Doorley of The National Youth Council of Ireland said, “The focus must turn to getting out the vote. There are almost 400,000 18 to 25 year olds in Ireland. In the coming days NYCI will be encouraging this age group in particular to make sure they make their voices heard on Friday the 22nd of May.”
