Samantha Mumba puts recent controversy behind her on March 18 when she performers her ‘Personalities’ single in Limerick’s Trinity Rooms as part of a three-room Paddy’s Weekend extravaganza.
Judging by two other new tracks we’ve heard, ‘Angel’ and ‘Rear View’, she may just prove the cynics wrong with her somewhat grittier new club sound.
In what could be a further boost to her career, music mogul Harvey Goldsmith is urging The X-Factor to bring Mumba on board as a replacement for departing judge Louis Walsh.
Goldsmith’s interest isn’t entirely philanthropic with the Dubliner the first subject of his new Get Your Act Together With Harvey Goldsmith series, which commences a six-week Channel 4 run at 9pm on March 27.
“It wasn’t a smooth path by any means, and at times she drove me half mad, but at the end of the day, Samantha revealed she’s got the great talent it takes to be a huge star,” he says of coaching Mumba for her UK and US relaunch. “I believe Samantha would make a fantastic judge, having experienced the highs and lows of success herself, and she isn’t shy of making her thoughts known.”
Last week also found the Dubliner being formally apologised to by the reigning Miss Scotland, Nicola McClean, who’d said that she “looked like a monkey” on her Radio Clyde radio show.
Adamant that she hadn’t meant to be racist, the 22-year-old said: “I was trying to be funny and I meant absolutely no harm, nor did I intend to offend anyone by this comment. I am not racist and I do not condone racist behaviour of any kind.”
