With a filmography that other aspiring directors can only dream of, Sam Mendes is an ideal figure to head the jury of the 73rd Venice Film Festival.
Yesterday was the turn of the Cannes Film Festival to announce their jury line-up and today, the Venice Film Festival announced theirs.
American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Revolutionary Road and Skyfall are just some of the attributes Mendes has to his repertoire. He also produces the Brit TV hit Penny Dreadful, brought his creative directing skills to theater with the Olivier-nominated play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and is set to direct The Voyeur's Hotel which Steven Spielberg has attested his name to as producer.
Artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera had a hand in selecting Mendes as leader of the jury board and good reason for doing so; "Mendes productions, whether destined for stage or screen, are able to reconcile the expectations of the most exacting critics with the tastes of a vast audience which seems to transcend all geographical and cultural boundaries."
The 73rd Venice Film Festival will roll out the red carpet on August 31.
