Ryan Sheridan began his music career with a meteoric rise to stardom going from busking streets to headlining main stages in less than a year, then going on to play in packed out arenas supporting acts such as Bryan Adams, Britney Spears and The Script.
“It’s been a busy enough year,” the Monaghan-born singer tells me. “My second album came out earlier this year and then after that I was off to the States and I was out there touring around for a few months. But now that I’ve been back I’ve been trying to write some new stuff and trying to get back into the gigging circuit again. Then right away I got the call about doing EP and I’m always happy to be back here again. Then straight after this I’m off on another European tour, so it’s nonstop really.”
Having done a teenage apprenticeship on Broadway, Ryan’s live performances have become a key part of his appeal and veteran Electric Picnic goers will have come across his high energy live sets at the festival many times before.
Ryan shares the main stage with acts such as Nas and The Chemical Brothers, but he tells me he’s most excited about getting to share the stage with The 1975. “I’m mad to see them,” he says. “I’ve been playing their new album nonstop for the past couple of months so can’t wait to hear what it sounds like live. The new album is a lot different to their old one so I can’t wait to see how they’ll actually pull it off live.”
