"There’s an explosion happening in Limerick. Every MC down there is amazing!"
"Hip Hop in Ireland has always been there," they told us, "but the spotlight was never on us. It’s only in recent years that people have begun to appreciate it."
In recent months the Rusangano’s have been rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in music and speaking of being invited up by Snoop Dogg, or 'Uncle Snoop', "We didn’t believe it at first!" But, it was Ed Sheeran who made the biggest impression on the guys. On their first encounter, they said, "I had to tell Ed Sheeran to stop jumping up and down on the stage because he was making the record skip." They went on to tell the crowd that the Croke Park headliner is "the nicest guy in the world. He teaches you to continue to be a 'good human', he’s a really down to earth guy."
The band love playing live but admitted that "The best gigs we’ve ever played, I wish I could fit everyone into my bedroom," a comment that illicited some whoops and catcalls from the large assembled crowd. "Not like that, that’s where we rehearse!"
When asked who their biggest influences were at the moment, the group name checked Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Forbidden Fruit's own Earl Sweatshirt and Run The Jewels
Before the guys left they promised that they had something really special coming down the pipeline, and on top of that a new album set to drop later this year.
Joey Bada$$ is up next.
