Rory Gallagher, former lead singer of the Donegal band The Revs, has been making plenty of noise on the Internet lately. Starting with his comical demo 'Ryan Air Blues' last month, Gallagher decided to try an experiment, writing a song made up entirely of lyrics sent in from people on his Facebook page.
Titled 'Random Facebook Shit,' the nearly 6 minute long track was created when Gallagher asked his Facebook friends to leave him lyrics, saying he'd use the best of the bunch for an upcoming song. Later that night, he recorded an R&B backing track over which he rapped his favorite lines. Surprisingly cohesive, definitely bizarre, and genuinely funny, the outcome has been so widely shared that Gallagher has considered creating an entire EP using that concept.
"I'm thinking about leaving a post open for one week and crafting and editing an EP out of the best lyrics that are added," he said. "This is an interesting new and novel idea and I know that it's only a matter of time before a better known artist rips it off!"
