A special charity night is planned for one of Ireland's greatest musicians featuring John Sheahan, Declan O’Rourke, Eleanor Shanley, The Nuala’s, Phil Coulter, Mary Coughlan & Phelim Drew
A tribute night has been announced for the late legend Ronnie Drew.
'Here's To You, Ronnie Drew - a Celebration' is being held at Dublin's Vicar Street, on Friday, Sept 2 at 8pm.
On August 16, 2008, the folk music world and Ireland in particular, lost one of its greatest icons as the legendary Dubliner Ronnie Drew passed away.
Ronnie was the quintessential Dubliner. The face, and especially that voice, was instantly recognisable. He, along with Luke Kelly, Barney McKenna, Ciaran Bourke and John Sheahan, became The Dubliners and were part of the folk boom that swept through music here in the early 60’s and paved the way for many bands & singer songwriters that followed.
Over the course of his lengthy career Ronnie recorded with a very wide variety of musicians and many diverse styles…..The Pogues, Rory Gallagher, Eleanor Shanley, Billy Connolly, Jah Wobble, The Dropkick Murphys, Mary Coughlan, Damien Dempsey among many others.
