Their latest album, 11:11 was the highest new entry in this week's Irish charts.
The number nine placing may have been a bit of a disappointment for Ruby Works, the label that has made R&G into such a success internationally: their eponymous 2006 album went straight to number one. However, they still succeeded in eclipsing The Beatles, for whom The Beatles In Stereo was the highest entry out of all the remastered albums just issues by EMI.
“It could be that the decision to release the Beatles albums on 09.09.09 – which was a Wednesday here – told against them, in chart terms,” one prominent retailer told Hot Press. “That left only three days to sell, since albums are normally released on Friday here.”
There are five Beatles albums in all in the Top 31, with Abbey Road at number 16, Sgt. Pepper at 22, Revolver at 28 and The White Album at 31. Rubber Soul, Let It Be and Past Masters Volumes 1 and 2 bring the total number of Beatles albums in the Top 100 to eight.
