With big names like Eminem, One Direction and Katy Perry jostling for space at the top of the chart with those of younger artists emerging from almost total obscurity, this week’s most popular tracks make an interesting mix.
Eminem and Rihanna’s fourth collaboration, ‘The Monster’, places both stars firmly at the very top of the singles charts in Ireland. The track, which was co-written by upcoming artist Bebe Rexha, features on Eminem’s latest album, Marshall Mathers LP2.
The popular duo are followed by Ireland's own Hozier.
His ‘Take Me To Church’ is the lead track taken form his exciting EP release. Since its upload in September, the song has received 240,000 views and spread the Wicklow musician’s influence far and wide. Previously, Hozier made his mark with the Dublin group Nova Collective and as the lead vocalist in the Trinity Orchestra.
Another promising newcomer takes third place. With its combination of clever, cannily observed lyrics sang softly over mesmerizing electronic beats, ‘Royals’ is a prime example of Lorde’s signature sound.
