With the LA veterans headed for Tennent's Vital next month – and our Olympians gearing up for Rio glory – there's no punches pulled this fortnight
Red Hot Chili Peppers are on their way to Belfast next month, with a new album – and a renewed vigour – so there's no better time to feature the LA veterans on the front of Hot Press.
Inside, Flea reflects on a career which has seen them go from a cultural phenomenon to one of the most enduring rock bands around. He also weighs in on gun control, Donald Trump, why rock is dead, and what keeps the band going after all these years.
Crossing the Atlantic in the opposite directions are our Olympic hopefuls, who jet off to Rio with gold in their sights. Michael Conlan leads the charge, as he tells Colm O'Regan what's changed since London, why he's so sure of collecting gold, and why he fears no man in the ring – and no mosquito outside of it. Arthur Lanigan O'Keefe and Natalya Coyle give us an insight into the weird and wonderful world of the Modern Pentathlon, while debutant Ellis O'Reilly discusses being the first female gymnast to represent Ireland in the Games.
Elsewhere, Tame Impala's Kevin Parker discusses his ever-expanding artistic palette, The Strypes fill us in as they eye up album No. 3, and Metronomy, aka Joe Mount, tells us why he's breaking with all pattern by going off-road.
The Hot Press Interview sees Jason O'Toole getting up close and very personal with one of the most interesting figures in Irish politics, Paschal Donohoe. In a fascinating, wide-ranging chat, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform addresses everything from the repeal of the Eighth Amendment and the case for supervised injection rooms to his take on Boris Johnson and why he's now a member of the Beyhive.
Conor Purcell takes a look at the documentary which asks questions about not just the disappearance of Mary Boyle, but the role of media in modern Ireland; US comedian Dan Soder chats ahead of his Vodafone Comedy Festival visit; Christoph Waltz shakes off the tag of perennial villain; and porn star Conner Habib shows there's more to him than meets the eye.
Add in all the usual news, views, reviews, previews and much, much more, and it's another jam-packed issue of Hot Press, on shelves Thursday!
