The Hot Press Newsdesk, 11 Jun 2012

It may be the morning after the horrible football night before, but there’s loads of cinematic cheer to be had in this week’s Movies Monday.
Kicking us off in considerable style is the latest trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, the Spidey prequel, which hits screens here on July 3, looks phenomenal and includes Martin Sheen, Rhys Ifans, Emma Stone, Denis Leary and Andrew Garfield among its all-star cast.
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker, an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May,” reads the blurb. “Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding the way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy, and together, they struggle with love, commitment and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner.”

Movies Monday is very much liking the look of Mission To Lars, the touching story of chronically ill Metallica fan Tom Spicer whose dream is to meet Mr. Ulrich.
“His siblings promise to make it happen, with hopes of good times and bonding,” reads the synopsis. “But what starts out a dream soon becomes a nightmare as Tom’s disabilities, a dysfunctional family, and heavy metal’s labyrinthine backstage world thwart the mission at every turn. But as they get closer to Lars, Tom the man starts to shine.”
