The governor of Minnesota has named today after the late singer.
Today has been named 'Prince Day' by the governor of Minnesota where the late singer was from.
The announcement comes hand in hand with what would have been Prince's 58th birthday. Mark Dayton, governor of Minnesota, has also requested that all residents must wear purple to commemorate the singer.
Prince was born in Minneapolis in 1958 and his home along with his recording studio were in Chanahassen.
The singer died on April 21 following an overdose of the prescription drug, fentanyl.
While Prince is remembered around the world today it is unlikely he would have celebrated the day himself. The singer was a practicing Jehovah's Witness, a religion which traditionally ignores special celebrations such as Christmas or birthdays.
