The Wexford songwriter is beginning to turn heads with a superb new record...
Wexford songwriter Pierce Turner has just posted a new video to YouTube – and it's getting a great reaction!
The video is of an intimate performance of 'Yogi With A Broken Heart' – the opening track from Turner's new 2012 record Songs For A Verry Small Orchestra. The video begins with a conversation between Turner and Glass, in which the Irish songwriter explains the genesis of what is a very beautiful and moving track. Already the song has been garnering acclaim in the UK, with influential Guardian correspondent Laura Barton being among its early supporters.
Turner, whose live performances are legendary, is one of the under-appreciated heroes of Irish music, having written some of the most memorable and uplifting songs of the past 30 years, since first emerging as part of Turner and Kirwan from Wexford in New York in the '70s.
The album was recorded at the Meadow Studio, Wicklow, with Garvan Gallagher and Rian Trench among the cast of musicians. The video for 'Yogi With A Broken Heart' was produced by John Rokosny and Andriette Redmann.
