936
Long-awaited family affair pushes all the right buttons.
Husband and wife dub pop duo Peaking Lights’ latest effort 936 finally gets a release on this side of the world and I have to say it was definitely worth the wait, as the record (which was previously only available via import) is a fiercely inventive and mesmerising mix of sounds and ideas that will keep you coming back to it time and time again. A haunting hybrid of krautrock, minimal house, ‘60s girl group-inspired melodies and psychedelia, the album is at its best when most melodic and Indra Dunis’ ghostly vocals on the likes of ‘Birds Of Paradise Dub Version’ and ‘Amazing And Wonderful’ in particular make the listening experience a rewarding one.
