Showtime has secured Just Kids for the small screen.
Just Kids, Patti Smith's remarkable 2010 memoir, documents her relationship with the late Robert Mapplethorpe and includes encounters with everyone from Jimi Hendrix to William Burroughs. It certainly has all the ingredients to transfer successfully to other media, and there have long been rumours of a film version being in the work.
Now we have confirmation that it is bound for the small screen rather than the big screen.
US cable network Showtime have announced their plans to adapt it for a limited series. Most notably, Smith herself will co-write and co-produce the show with John logan, the man behind Penny Dreadful.
"A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation," Smith says. "The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book."
