Erstwhile Mum member makes disposable mini-album.
Critically acclaimed Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Olof Arnalds’ latest mini-album is a collection of covers of songs by the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Arthur Russell and, as expected, they’re all delivered in her unique, heavily-accented vocal style. Presented in a stark, stripped-back manner, all five are pretty enough little ditties, but there are very few moments on Olof Sings that really demand you take notice of Olof’s reinterpretations. ‘With Tomorrow/I’m On Fire’ and the Neil Diamond-penned ‘Solitary Man’ are sweet and soulful, but ultimately the record feels a little throwaway and disposable. You’d probably be better off saving your money for her 2012-scheduled third album instead.
