There are strong signs that musical pioneers My Bloody Valentine are to bring their long hiatus to an end and get back together.
Hot Press has learned from a well-placed source that My Bloody Valentine are set to reform in 2008 after a 16 year hiatus.
Despite rumours that they’ve been secretly recording a new album, it appears that Kevin Shields’ studio activities have been confined to remastering material for a MBV retrospective that will include a number of previously unavailable tracks.
Gig-wise, Coachella booker Paul Tollett has made no secret of the fact that he wants them to play at the 2008 event, which takes place in California from April 25 to 28. His powers of persuasion are legendary with the Pixies, Gang Of Four, Bauhaus and The Jesus & Mary Chain all coming out of retirment in the past for the festival.
One person who’s in favour of the reunion is Alan McGee whose Creation label almost went bust funding My Bloody Valentine’s second album.
“To be fair to Kevin – and he doesn’t deserve me being fair to him any more on any level – if he does anything it’s for the music, not the money,” he says.
Adding further fuel to the reunion fire is the launch of an official MySpace and the registration of mybloodyvalentine.co.uk.
