The Birr singer-songwriter joins and illustrious army of rockers who have gone the Pledge route, including The Flaming Lips, Slash, Interpol and Gemma Hayes
Pledge Music has announced that Aware, the Irish charity dedicated to assisting those with depression, will benefit from the pledge campaign to support Mundy’s as yet unnamed new album.
The Birr singer-songwriter announced last week that his new album was being released in association with Pledge Music. One of the treats for fans is that they help to choose the title for the record.
The album has been recorded with Youth in the production chair. "We did some demos and co-writing and I decided that it was a sign and that we should make history together again,” Mundy says.
Aficionados will know that Youth was at the desk for Mundy’s debut album, back in 1995. Thus, the new record will in effect mark the 20th anniversary of the emergence of one of Ireland’s most accomplished songwriting talents.
"It was bang bang, spontaneous, intense and a lot of fun,” Mundy says of the recording sessions. "We sweated hard over eight days and I am more than proud and excited about the result. I really think we made something musically diverse, with great depth and sonic adventure.”
The album was recorded in Youth’s studio in Granada, in Spain, and the other musicians involved include Youth himself on bass, Eddie Banda (assistant engineer) on drums and Michael Rendal (engineer) on keyboards.

The Pledge campaign is progressing really well, having surpassed the 14% mark inside a week – meaning that it is well on course to achieve its target. Red flags have begun to appear on a variety of items – meaning that there is a limited number left – so it is important for fans to get in there sooner rather than later!
“Having just done a successful Pledge campaign for Philip Lynott: Still In Love With You, I can confirm that it is a really great way for fans to get involved in the creative process and to get closer to the artist,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said. “Looking at Mundy’s campaign there are loads of options and opportunities – which you can only really get a feel for by going to the Pledge site and spending a bit of time there. It’s something that I’d heartily recommend.”
Other artists who have run successful Pledge campaigns include The Flaming Lips, The Hold Steady, Slash and Interpol, as well as Irish stars Stiff Little Fingers, Gemma Hayes and Ricky Warwick, among others.
Aware will receive 5% of all of the money generated once the Pledge goal is reached, providing an extra incentive for fans to contribute.
