Canadian Starlet in sterling r&B album shock
Canada has given us many things over the last few decades. It has provided scores of perfect indie pop bands, brewed up some super strong beer and given us countless hours of amusement over the fact that the country just isn’t much cop compared to its neighbours in the USA. But now, for the first time ever, they’re giving the world a decent, home-grown R‘n’B star in the form of Melanie Fiona. The Bridge is her debut album and it’s an intelligent homage to ‘60s Motown, sampling soul classics while putting her own unique stamp on things. Highlights include saucy single ‘Give It To Me Right’ and the future party anthem ‘Please Don’t Go (Baby)’, which is required listening for anyone suffering Destiny’s Child withdrawal symptoms.
