Following an unusually political Rose of Tralee broadcast last night, social media has been out in force to commend a call for women's rights
The Rose of Tralee isn't known for being the most political of gatherings, but the past twelve hours has seen a monstrous reaction to the Sydney Rose calling for the 8th Amendment to be repealed.
The show had earlier seen a Fathers For Justice protester crashing the stage, but he was soon overshadowed by Brianna Parkins. The Sydney representative works as a journalist for ABCNews is a campaigner for women's rights in Australia – and used her time on stage to call to repeal the eighth.

Predictably, it prompted a flurry of tweets – though particularly eye-catching was the spat between Leo Sherlock and Graham Linehan.
Why doesn't the #SydneyRose mind her own business and get the first flight home. Don't wait til tomo, you haven't a chance! #RoseofTralee

.@Glinner So does the dated, crap television you spewed out. You don't even want to live here yourself, Linehan #GoodRiddance to bad rubbish

While Parkins herself was straight into suitable attire when thanking supporters later in the evening.
Thanks for the all the support #SydneyRose #RoseofTralee #repealthe8th pic.twitter.com/zqK0XPkJ34

Indeed, the above criticism from Sherlock appeared to be one of the very few dissenting voices, as the reaction was otherwise overwhelmingly positive.
Today children, we will be making a tin foil crown for the #SydneyRose. Don't hold back on the gems. She's worth it.

I want to be friends with the #SydneyRose and go to protest marches with her and have her hold my hair back after too much wine. ❤️?❤️?❤️
