Marilyn Manson cast in Californication

‘90s metal icon to appear in award-winning US drama

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 26 Jun 2012

Playing himself, Manson will appear in the sixth season of the hit drama.

Starring David Duchovny of X-Files fame, the show has an established musical tradition, having previously featured the music of such luminaries as Bob Dylan, Elton John, The Rolling Stones and The Doors. Zoe Kravitz has been on the show, and Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society did a cameo in season 4.

There’s a huge cast of characters already established in the series, and critics are interested to see what Manson can make of the role. As Brian Warner, he has taken on numerous film roles since the ‘90s, the best-known of which have been as a voice actor for TV series. His CV features such well-known names as South Park and the now-defunct Celebrity Deathmatch. It would be worth tuning in just to see how Manson presents the character, although judging by the format of the show, his fascination with Macbeth may tie in nicely with the current state of the main character, Hank.

The legal battle between the show and Red Hot Chili Peppers rages on with no end in sight.

Heart Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides The Hand)

Considering Marilyn Manson changed from being a rag-wearing societal reject to an alt-fashion icon the nanosecond the opportunity presented itself, it should be no surprise that there’s not a trace of goth left in the band anymore. In fact the only thing to separate ‘Heart Shaped Glasses’, the lead track of Eat Me Drink Me, from Franz Ferdinand’s sound is Mr. Manson’s trademark vocals, which are part of his image. The increasing difference between the product and its packaging is only confirmed by the oh-so-shocking Natural Born Killers-inspired video, which features him and his girlfriend, the inspiration for the track, having (possibly real) sex. Oh, please.
