The Chieftains, Marc Almond, Horslips and Beth Orton will all play.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 05 Apr 2012

Taking place June 23-24, the Westport Festival Of Music And Performing Arts will bring some massive artists to the West Of Ireland for one stunning weekend.

We already have the legendary Ray Davies, musical institution Jools Holland and Irish acts both young (Imelda May, Royseven, The Minutes) and seasoned (The Dubliners, Undertones) confirmed.

Now, we have a second strong wave. The Chieftains, celtic rockers Horslips, Soft Cell singer Marc Almond as special guest to Jools, and Beth Orton will all play.

Other distinguished additions include: Ryan Sheridan, Wallis Bird, Colin Devlin, Bronagh Gallagher, Sam Amidon, Liz Lawrence, The Plea, Touchwood, Red Empire and Rhob Cunningham.

And it really is a family affair, as children under 12 are welcomed into the festival free of charge. Adult tickets are €75 including booking fee for a one day ticket and €130 including booking fee for a two day ticket. Go to www.westportfestival.com for all the details.

The lavish cover art says it all. Almond casts himself as a 21st century troubadour adorned with diamonds and pearls. The tone is lavish and luxurious, but thankfully Marc resists the temptation of totally re-inventing himself in uncomfortable futuristic clothes.

Open All Night

Draped in lush decadence and tragic dissolution, the devilishly handsome Marc Almond's latest is Baudelairean in its literary scope and sensibilities. Satin, silk, kisses that are cruel - the fear of being hurt - erotic, neurotic, obsessive love - these are the themes that suffuse Open All Night.
