Little Palace
Lavish stuff from ‘90s-ish romantics
If huge, sprawling ‘90s-esque love songs are your thing, then Little Palace’s Invitation Time is most certainly the record for you. For far too long it seems that bands have abandoned the more grandiose style of songwriting in favour of a more lo-fi approach, but this six-piece seem to love big production as much as this writer. Stars of the show are co-vocalists Ann-Louise Mulvany and Michael Brunnock and they pack drama and intrigue into almost every song. There are few wasted moments on this impressive slab of wax, and quite a few standouts such as opener ‘Eviction’ and the title-track. Fans of Sheer, Mazzy Star and the Cocteau Twins will love this.
Key Track: ‘Beekeeper’
