Mitchelstown Caves included in the venues set to host outstanding line-up
The 16th year of the Clonmel Junction Festival is shaping up to be very special indeed, as something of a revamp means July's renewal is looking very tasty indeed.
New festival director Mary Hickson – who co-curated Cork's Sounds From A Safe Harbour festival in 2015 with The National’s Bryce Dessner – has repeated her heroics from that memorable weekender, with the cream of Irish and international talent set to take part in the summer spectacular.
English folksters The Unthanks and German pianist Hauschka join homegrown talents like Lisa Hannigan (pictured) and Lisa O'Neill on a star-studded line-up. Perhaps the most exciting announcement thus far are a series of shows that bring whole new meaning to the concept of 'underground', with the pairings of August Wells & Ye Vagabonds (July 8); Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh & Twin Headed Wolf (9); and from Iceland JFDR & Talos (10) set to play in the spectacular settings of Mitchelstown Caves.
There's plenty more still to be announced in what looks like being a genuine highlight of the summer; it runs July 4 – 10.
